Although coming from the Patiala-Kasur gharana (a school/lineage [“gharana”] focused on the voice), Chakrabarty is equally well-versed in all major classical Indian gharanas. A student of the revered guru Padmabhushan Jnan Prakash Ghosh, and of Ustad Munawar Ali Khan, the son of Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, Chakrabarty is the recipient of numerous awards at home and abroad, including the prestigious Padma Shree National Award, presented by the President of India. He is a senior guru at ITC Sangeet Research Academy in Kolkata, and the founder of Shrutinandan a renowned school of Indian classical music.
