Part of the Aga Khan Museum’s 12th annual Duende International Flamenco Festival: Flamenco and the World, join us for a film screening that celebrates the legacy of Farruquito, one of the greatest flamenco dancers of this century.

Farruquito is celebrated as the finest flamenco dancer of his generation. He belongs to a legendary dynasty of bailaores (dancers). At only 20, he was already at the height of his success, captivating audiences around the globe from New York to Tokyo – with his extraordinary talent, yet the shadows of his family’s tumultuous history loomed large.

Farruquito: A Flamenco Dynasty

The film follows Farruquito’s journey through triumph and tragedy, focusing on a pivotal moment that changes everything: a tragic accident that leads to the death of a pedestrian and lands him in prison. This harrowing experience forces him to confront the demons of his past and the heavy burden of his family’s legacy.

As he navigates the complexities of redemption, the story also delves into the lives of his family—his grandfather Farruco, a flamenco innovator whose influence shaped the art form, and his son El Moreno, who aspires to follow in their illustrious footsteps. The film explores the intricate dynamics of their relationships, highlighting the struggle to balance artistic brilliance with the weight of expectation. An intimate peek into the artform of flamenco and gitano culture.
