On November 20, bask in the power of dance and music to express edges of the human condition that cannot be put into words.

That night, Toronto flamenco icon Carmen Romero will transfix Museum audiences with her new collaborative work, Flamencura. The title is an amalgam of “flamenco” and “locura,” a Spanish word meaning “crazy to the point of being inexplicable.” It celebrates flamenco’s ability to mesmerize both performer and viewer — to elevate them to stratospheric heights of emotion, passion, and connection.

Providing the musical soundscape for Romero’s explorations will be accomplished flamenco artists Benjamin Barrile (guitar), Miguel Medina (percussion), Caroline Plante (guitar), and Jose Luis Perez (vocals). Together, they will transport you to the outer reaches of “flamencura” while showing off the unique artistry — the locura — of each performer along the way.

Flamencura is presented as part of the Museum’s seventh annual Duende Festival. Returning to the Museum Auditorium for the 2021 edition, it is a joyous celebration of flamenco and its rich connections to diverse cultures, performance styles, and storytelling traditions.
