Teachers, bring your students to the Aga Khan Museum, where our mission is to connect cultures through art using curriculum-linked experiential learning.
MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL: GRADES 7–12
These advanced programs challenge students to think critically, bringing learning to the next level as they take part in stimulating exploration activities using primary sources as inspiration.
Students experiment with traditional Mughal miniature painting techniques to create their own visual narrative.
Students discuss how patterns are used in Islamic traditions, go on a pattern hunt in the galleries, then create a clay tile inspired by Islamic art and explore how their individual tiles can be used to create a larger patterned mosaic.
Students experiment with creating complex geometric shapes – using only pre-digital technology – as decoration for a clay tile.
Adventures Along the Silk Route
Students explore how luxury goods, languages, resources, and cultures were shared and traded around the ancient world and play the Museum’s custom-made board game, which simulates life along the silk routes.
The Chemistry of Pigment
Students create their own pigments and paints by hand, grinding a variety of materials and experimenting with the addition of traditional chemicals and compounds.
The Art of Writing
Students explore the way different cultures use beautiful writing as decoration, then create their own English-language calligraphy inspired by the Arabic calligraphic arts.
Lead your students through the galleries at your own pace, and choose how to use our collection to support your classroom learning.
