Teachers, bring your students to the Aga Khan Museum, where our mission is to connect cultures through art using curriculum-linked experiential learning.
JUNIOR: GRADES 4–6
Junior-level programs help growing learners to build confidence and knowledge through collaborative exploration and fun, hands-on activities.
Pattern Play
Students embark on a pattern hunt in the galleries, discover the building blocks of design through Islamic art and architecture, then create a clay tile inspired by what they’ve seen. Then, keep the learning going beyond the visit as their art becomes part of a larger mosaic masterpiece.
‘Reading’ Visual Stories
Students expand their understanding of what stories are and how they are told, then create their own miniature painting inspired by art in the Museum Collection.
Building Machines
Students explore how scientists from the Islamic world have contributed to our modern lives, then experiment with building their own chain-reaction contraption using Simple Machines. They then record their machine in action.
Adventures Along the Silk Route
Students explore how luxury goods, languages, resources, and cultures were shared and traded around the ancient world through the Museum’s custom-made board game, which simulates life along the silk routes.
Calligraphy
Students explore the ways different cultures use writing as decoration, then create their own English-language calligraphy inspired by the Arabic calligraphic arts.
The Art of Colour
Taking inspiration from the Museum Collection, students get the opportunity to use mixed media to explore colour blending, emphasis, and shading.
Self-Guided Tours
Lead your students through the galleries at your own pace, and choose how to use our collection to support your classroom learning.
