Join visual artist Ekow Nimako on an intimate tour of his striking new exhibition Civilizations — the latest chapter of his Building Black body of work. The tour will delve into the inspiration behind his Afrofuturist art and his unconventional use of LEGO© pieces. As he takes you through the exhibition’s series of thought-provoking sculptures, you’ll learn how Black consciousness and African culture has fundamentally shaped his artistic vision.

This event is part of our fall season —Africa! — which explores new dimensions of the vast and complex continent with a world-class lineup of art, performers, and speakers.

Ekow Nimako studied Fine Arts at York University and began using LEGO© pieces exclusively in his practice in 2014. He has since cultivated a unique approach to building the iconic material with masterful attention to fluidity and form. His content is deeply rooted in otherworldly Black narratives and draws on his fascination with architecture, futuristic cultures, and ancient civilizations. He lives and works in Toronto, Canada.
