Enjoy the riotous yet intimate music of DakhaBrakha, a quartet known for reimagining centuries-old Ukrainian folk songs through contemporary musical genres and instruments from around the world, including the West African djembe, Chinese erhu, and Australian didgeridoo.
Formed at an avant-garde theatre in Kyiv, Ukraine, in 2004, their performances are marked by a mesmerizing theatrical flourish that leaves audiences on their feet. The group’s name, DakhaBrakha, means “give/take” in old Ukrainian, and it’s this ethos of exchange that has made them a Museum-favourite over the years.
After sold-out concerts at the Museum in 2014 and 2016, and memorable Toronto visits dating back to 2013, they return now in partnership with the Royal Conservatory of Music to perform at Koerner Hall. This performance is part of our 2018/19 Performing Arts season, The Other Side of Fear, featuring acclaimed artists who have transcended fear through music, dance, and spoken word.
