Evoking cosmic unity like a lotus flower floating in a pond, materia prima is an enactment of divine emanation.
An icosahedron crystal unfolds into a bloom of cupolas, harmoniously tied to an invisible center aligned with the central axis of the Aga Khan Park. Drawn taut over an aluminum skeleton, rip-stop nylon — the fabric of tents and temporary shelter — becomes a veil of light, its inner glow a reminder of the eternal essence concealed within every form. Regarded by alchemists as the substance of the soul, its geometric structure is the materia contained in all things and, paradoxically, contains all things.
materia prima is a featured installation part of Nuit Blanche 2026: Sacred and Profane.
