Experience the soul of flamenco with Lola! Gitanos de Jerez — a performance presented for the first time in Canada by La Guarida del Angel. This mesmerizing showcase will transport you to Spain to witness a pure and genuine flamenco performance full of passion, elegance, and art. The unforgettable evening featuring six renowned artists from the heart of Jerez de la Frontera will journey through the exciting Andalusian art form.
Mario Gonzalez was invited to program this evening’s performance of Lola! Gitanos de Jerez. Gonzalez is the owner and cultural manager of La Guarida del Angel, a 16th-century palace located in the heart of Jerez’s flamenco-rich San Miguel neighbourhood. With 25 years of rich history, this historic venue has evolved from an ancient synagogue, convent, and orphanage into a vibrant concert hall. Mario Gonzalez also founded the “Jerez Off Festival,” programming hundreds of flamenco performances and recitals that showcase Jerez’s flamenco schools. The venue hosts conferences offering unique insights into flamenco art and culture.
Carmen Romero, the Artistic Director and Principal Dancer of Toronto’s Compañía Carmen Romero, serves as the guest co-curator for the 10th annual Duende Flamenco Festival, alongside Amirali Alibhai, Head of Performing Arts at the Aga Khan Museum and the Festival’s Artistic Director.
