Take inspiration from our Permanent Collection during this four-hour knitting workshop and make a beautiful knitted pillow. Led by Kirk Dunn, a master of the medium, the workshop will focus on two patterns — the Four-Pointed Star and Fountain Tiles.
After a stroll through our Galleries with a Museum Educator, Dunn will teach you how to create knitting designs based on real objects, and his unique technique for choosing complex colourways that will lend your creations texture and depth.
Please note that knitting experience is recommended.
Dunn is an artist, actor, and writer who began knitting in 1988 and designing in 1996. In 1998, he apprenticed at the Kaffe Fassett Studio in England, and in 2003, he was awarded a Chalmers Foundation Fellowship for his masterwork, Stitched Glass, an installation of tapestries hand-knit in the style of stained glass, exploring the commonalities and conflicts amongst Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
Dunn’s one-man play The Knitting Pilgrim will be staged at the Museum from May 11–12, during which Stitched Glass will be on display.
