SCHOOL PROGRAM

Junior-Level Online Programs

Date: Available year-round
Price: $200 for 30 participants

Each of our platform-based virtual experiences provides age-appropriate information on a specific topic related to our Museum Collection. After you register, you will be granted access to the virtual tour and interactive elements and a detailed Teacher Resource Package.

The Tour:

The tour includes videos featuring a Museum educator, interspersed with interactive elements and activity options. It will take approximately 40 minutes to watch through the tour program — which should fit nicely into a single class period.

Your virtual experience will end with an optional workshop demonstration video. The workshop activity will take 30-40 minutes to complete.

Teacher Resource Package:

The resource package will provide you with such things as the program at a glance, Ontario Curriculum links, further extension activities, and resources for extended learning.

JUNIOR-LEVEL PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS (GRADES 4-6)

Pattern Play

Students will embark on a virtual pattern hunt in our permanent Collection, discover the building blocks of Islamic art and architecture (including the four main design motifs of geometric, floral, calligraphic, and figural patterns), and then create an artwork inspired by what they have seen in the gallery.

‘Reading’ Visual Stories

The Reading Visual Stories program focuses on two fundamental questions; what makes a story, and how do stories reflect the cultures from which they came? To answer these questions, students will explore our Museum Collection virtually and learn about storytelling across the Islamic World. Finally, inspired by the Museum’s miniature paintings, they will create their own visual story.
