Prepare to be transported by a captivating evening of masterful artistry and timeless tradition.

Pandit Satish Vyas began his taalim in raag sangeet under the guidance of his father, the illustrious vocalist and Padma Bhushan awardee, the late Pandit C. R. Vyas. Though rooted in vocal music, his heart was drawn to the shimmering resonance of the santoor. He went on to become a disciple of the legendary Padma Vibhushan late Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma. This rare dual lineage has shaped his unique style, blending the expressive gayaki ang with the rhythmic and intricate layakari and tantrakari ang in his santoor playing.

As the most senior disciple of Shivji, Pandit Satish Vyas is a revered figure on the global classical music stage, celebrated for his captivating performances at prestigious festivals around the world.

Pandit Satish Vyas will be accompanied by the accomplished Mukundraj Deo on tabla.

The Aga Khan Museum is proud to partner with the Raag-Mala Music Society of Toronto to bring the finest musicians performing Raag Sangeet (North Indian Classical music) to Toronto audiences.

Throughout their 2025 concert season, Raag-Mala Toronto will present five carefully selected vocalists and instrumentalists who are masters of their craft. Paying homage to tradition while carrying on this ancient art form, Raag-Mala Toronto presents a masterclass in musical complexity through a series of raags — improvisations based on musical scales that serve as the lifeblood of Indian classical music and have no traditional Western equivalent.

This concert is part of Raag-Mala Toronto’s ‘Sowing the Seeds of Raag Sangeet in Canada’ series.

The Museum’s Performing Arts programming is generously supported by the Nanji Family Foundation.
