Join us for a captivating evening of music and poetry, featuring two powerful world debuts that weave together tradition, spirituality, and contemporary expression.

Tawhida Tanya Evanson

Acclaimed poet, author, and spoken-word artist Tawhida Tanya Evanson takes the stage with master musician Saeed Kamjoo. Evanson presents her newest collection of ghazals in English, brought to life through the evocative sounds of the kamancheh, performed by Kamjoo.

Yahya Hussein Abdallah

The evening continues with Yahya Hussein Abdallah, a Tanzanian singer, composer, and winner of the 2022 Aga Khan Music Award. Abdallah is joined by Toronto-based musicians Dhaivat Jani (drums and percussion), Gandhaar Amin (bansuri), and Anas Reslan (oud) in a performance shaped by an Aga Khan Museum music residency.

Together, they explore the themes of the exhibition As the Sun Appears from Beyond: Twenty Years of the Al Burda Award, blending spirituality, sacred texts, and Sufi traditions. At the heart of the performance is Abdallah’s mesmerizing voice, seamlessly intertwined with the artistry of his collaborators to create a moving tapestry of devotional and contemporary sound.
