Featured in the exhibition Muqarnas: Form and Light, McArthur’s photographs capture the intricate beauty and geometric precision of muqarnas — an architectural element found throughout the Islamic world. Gain a deeper understanding of the artistic, cultural, and historical significance of these remarkable forms, as McArthur shares stories and insights behind his work.
McArthur’s fascination with muqarnas began on a post-college trip to Europe, where a visit to Spain’s Alhambra Palace left a lasting impression. Decades later, a chance encounter with a similar architectural detail on a historic gate reignited that early curiosity.
