Nanji Family Foundation Auditorium
$20 (includes drum for workshop)
Tickets to this workshop include admission to the Museum’s galleries.
In this hands-on workshop led by Pape Ndiaye, participants will learn how to play the tama, a traditional West African talking drum known for its ability to mimic the rhythms and tonal patterns of human speech. Using an underarm pressure technique, the tama player alters pitch and inflection, allowing the drum to communicate phrases, signals, and musical expressions within Senegalese culture.
