Prepare for a transendent experience through masterful musical improvisation, captivating poetry, and live calligraphy.

Presented as a feature performance of the Museum’s newest exhibition, As the Sun Appears from Beyond: Twenty Years of the Al Burda Award, Rouh and Rhythm is a mystical journey where Eastern and Western traditions converge in sound, spirit, and artistic expression. Rooted in the ethos of the Al Burda Awards, which honour contemporary Islamic art across disciplines like calligraphy, poetry, and ornamentation, this concert breathes life into those traditions, beyond the gallery.

This live debut performed by Sham Blues, led by multi-award-winning clarinetist, saxophonist, composer, and educator Majd Sukar, will feature his original compositions created especially for the occasion. It will bring together eight artists from eight different countries to weave a rich and dynamic tapestry of improvised music. Through collaboration and intuition, they create a deeply human and universal soundscape — one that resonates with love, compassion, and unity.

The experience is elevated by live fusion calligraphy and bilingual Arabic-English poetry, drawing on divine messages and shared human values. These real-time acts of devotion and creativity extend the exhibition’s exploration of how classical forms evolve and inspire in the present day.
