Experience a night that brings together some of Canada’s most dynamic professional flamenco artists — visionary performers who expand the art form by blending it with their own cultural traditions and contemporary practices.
Canada is home to a remarkable community of professional flamenco artists. Many come from outside Spain, bringing their own perspectives shaped by cultural heritage, artistic training, and creative practice.
This one-night event shines a spotlight on the artists who are transforming flamenco through cross-cultural expression, inspired by the rich diversity of Canada. Enjoy a thrilling evening where Japanese, Iranian, Sufi, South Asian, and even EDM influences collide with the passion and power of flamenco.
El Alma de la Conviencia
Duration: 30-minute performance followed by 10-minute film screening
Sois – Be (film)
In her world, the dancer explores and transcends the duality within herself. Aspiring to become a simple atom, she merges into the planetary spiral. This atom grows, revealing a hidden light. The revelation is simple: we know nothing; we are a particle in the infinite universe. Be nothing. Be.
Performance
What happens when flamenco and Sufi music meet, unite, and create a language of the heart? In this show, musicians Caroline Planté and Miguel Medina and singers Marcos Marin and Anouar Barrada are accomplices of flamenco and dervish dancer Shraddha Danielle Blaney and semazen Farzad Shams a. Jafari. In the spirit of Convivencia, their musical journey travels from Sevilla to Cordoba and Granada, drawing inspiration from the radiant era of Al-Andalus and the energy of Andalusia today.

ten ten + kiyo
ten ten + kiyo bring together the pulse of flamenco dance and the resonance of traditional Japanese music in a collaboration that is both unexpected and mesmerizing. Their work reveals how two seemingly distant traditions can meet in perfect harmony, at once deeply rooted and strikingly new.
This performance grows out of their 2022 project Hikidashi (meaning “drawers” in Japanese), where they exchanged inspiration and created works drawn from one another’s artistry. What began as fragments placed carefully into their “drawers” now unfolds on stage, fluid, powerful, and alive.

Peñas
November 20–23
Peñas are informal social venues that bring together audiences and artists to encourage conversation and allow for the appreciation of performances, both planned and spontaneous.
Join us in the Museum’s Atrium as it transforms into a Peña following the performances in the Nanji Family Foundation Auditorium. Mingle with other audience members, the artists, and enjoy the festive atmosphere while diverse local flamenco artists whisk you away each evening.
*Admission to each Peña is included with the ticket purchased for that evening’s performance. Tickets for the Peñas can’t be purchased separately.
