Join Toronto’s foremost maqam group, the Labyrinth Ensemble, and prominent Iranian vocalist Maliheh Moradi for an evening of modal music with a focus on Iranian dastgāh infused with the interpretation of the 14-member ensemble.

Revel in the mesmerizing melodies of Los Angeles-based singer and instrumentalist Maliheh Moradi as she performs with the spectacular Labyrinth Ensemble. Moradi has performed in notable works such as the Mowlavi Opera alongside Homayoun Shajarian, Singing in Shadow with Siamak Jahangiri, and the film score Atash Sabz composed by Mohammad-Reza Darvishi. Moradi has also participated in international music festivals in Australia, Spain, Germany, and Poland.

Composed of 14 stellar musicians, the Labyrinth Ensemble is dedicated to the study and performance of sonic traditions rooted in modal music, experimenting with sounds that stretch from Afghanistan through Central and West Asia and beyond. Each member of the ensemble is trained in more than one musical tradition, including Korean, Turkish, Chinese, and jazz, opening up unlimited possibilities for creative collaboration and composition.

The Museum’s Performing Arts programming is generously supported by the Nanji Family Foundation.
