IAM
Digital Exhibition
October 18–December 13, 2023
In 2021, during the pandemic shutdown, the Aga Khan Museum collaborated with Toronto-based visual artist and scientist Radha Chaddah to present her work, IAM on the #MuseumWithoutWalls platform. Act 2 was released on #MuseumWithoutWalls in 2022 as the Museum’s first entirely digital exhibition, and Acts 3 and 4 debuted as a mesmerizing live performance in 2023.
About IAM
“IAM” (ee-yam), Latin for ’now,’ is about perspective. It follows the story of the pandemic through four distinct material realms. Beginning in the molecular realm and ending in the cosmic, IAM explores four very different stories that unfold at each scale.
IAM is a performance installation with a ‘stage’ made only of projected imagery cast onto trees and grass. The immersive visuals take the viewer into a vastly magnified microscopic realm, with projected imagery produced and photographed in laboratories at the University of Toronto. This represents a symbolic re-framing of our relationship with the natural world, reminding us that we are only a small part of the evolutionary narrative of life on Earth.
