Unfortunately, due to personal health issues, Farruquito has been advised to suspend all professional commitments until further notice and will not be performing on Sunday evening. However, as the beacon of the Farrucos dynasty, he has chosen his brother, Antonio Fernández Montoya, better known as “El Farru,” to bring the artistic direction of Ángel Rojas to life.

Commissioned by the Aga Khan Museum for the 2024 Duende Flamenco Festival, Kintsugi is based on the Japanese philosophy that teaches us that in life we can turn adversity into something beautiful and resilient. Kintsugi shows us that in time, we can heal from our wounds, embrace our imperfections, and become stronger. It reminds us that no matter our difficulties, we can find a way to reframe and find meaning in life.

The renewal and reimagining of life will be witnessed in this world-premiere performance through the lens of Kintsugi and the meticulous and powerful artistic direction of Ángel Rojas in collaboration with audio-visual artist Victor Tomé. He will create a stunning visual experience enveloping the powerful live “Gitano” artistry of El Farru and his flamenco musicians.

Please note the world premiere performance of Kintsugi is an off-site event taking place at the Bluma Appel Theatre (27 Front St. E., Toronto) and is presented in partnership with TO Live.

Carmen Romero, the Artistic Director and Principal Dancer of Toronto’s Compañía Carmen Romero, serves as the guest co-curator for the 10th annual Duende Flamenco Festival, alongside Amirali Alibhai, Head of Performing Arts at the Aga Khan Museum and the Festival’s Artistic Director.
