Explore the history of paper as both a practical and artistic material, with inspiration from works in the Aga Khan Museum Collections, through this hands-on workshop.
Reflect on sustainability and creative reuse as you transform recycled paper into colourful, handmade beads. This form of jewellery-making has deep cultural roots in African traditions, particularly in East Africa — in countries such as Kenya and Uganda — where artisans have long crafted paper beads as a way to create beauty, generate income, and promote environmental awareness. Guided by our Museum Educators, you’ll design and assemble your own paper bead jewellery, giving new life to a timeless material while connecting global craft traditions with contemporary creativity.
