Part of Member Programming 2025
Exclusively for current Friends and Patrons.
Reserve your spot and see As the Sun Appears from Beyond: Twenty Years of the Al Burda Award before it opens to the public on June 14.
Presented for the first time in Canada, this exhibition offers an artistic and spiritual journey through classical and contemporary Islamic art.
As the Sun Appears from Beyond: Twenty Years of the Al Burda Award is the result of a unique collaboration between the Aga Khan Museum and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ministry of Culture focused on intercultural dialogue through the arts, under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2023. It celebrates the Museum’s tenth anniversary and 20 years of the Ministry’s international Al Burda Award, established in 2004 to mark Prophet Muhammad’s ﷺ birthday by showcasing excellence in Islamic arts to global audiences in a spirit of intercultural dialogue and appreciation.
Join us at 2 pm for an exclusive Curator Talk by Exhibition Curator, Dr. Ulrike Al-Khamis, Aga Khan Museum Director & CEO, and Al Burda Grant Curators, Fatma Al Mahmoud, Sara Bin Safwan, and Shaikha Al Zaabi.
Registration required.
Plus, receive a free hot drink and cookie at the Courtyard Café, on Friends’ Preview Day (June 13 only). To redeem, pick up your voucher from the Friends Preview Day table in the Museum Atrium (from 10:30 am–4 pm).
