The Art of Geometry • Grades 4–8
Tuesday, November 17, 2026 • 10–11 am
Discover the beauty and creativity of geometric design through remarkable works of art from the Aga Khan Museum and the Royal Ontario Museum. Students investigate how artists and makers across cultures have used lines, shapes, symmetry, and repetition to create intricate patterns in architecture, textiles, ceramics, and other works of art.
Through close observation and interactive discussion, students uncover the mathematical ideas behind geometric design before creating their own original geometric pattern inspired by objects and belongings from both museum collections.
Learning Goals:
- Identify geometric shapes, symmetry, and repeating patterns in works of art from diverse cultures.
- Analyze how artists use geometry to communicate beauty, meaning, and design.
- Create an original geometric pattern inspired by objects from the Aga Khan Museum and the Royal Ontario Museum.
