2024 Duende Flamenco Festival

Thursday, November 14–Sunday, November 17, 2024

Celebrate the Aga Khan Museum’s 10th annual Duende Flamenco Festival: Vida Al Andalus from November 14 to 17. Explore the multi-disciplinary nature of flamenco and its continually evolving modes of expression through an exciting celebration of dance, music, and film.

Immerse yourself in the fiery world of flamenco with free film screenings, TD Pop-Up Performances, an interactive family pre-festival performance by flamenco guitarist Guillermo Guillén, singer Alfonso Cid, and local artists, as well as a series of extraordinary evening performances featuring:

  • BREATH – A mesmerizing cross-cultural performance by Sevilla-based Iranian-Canadian artist Farnaz Ohadi, who sings in Farsi and recites poetry by Hafez and Rumi, joined by famed dancer Antonio Najarro.
  • Pellizco – A striking performance by Iván Vargas with Sevillian dance phenom, Nazaret Reyes.
  • Kintsugi: Flamenco and Healing a newly commissioned work about resilience through the work of legendary Sevilla-based artist Farruquito, directed by celebrated Madrilenian contemporary dancer and choreographer Ángel Rojas.
  • Lola! Gitanos de Jerez – A captivating showcase programmed by Mario Gonzalez, evoking the essence of  La Guarida del Angel in Jerez.

The 10th edition of this festival explores an art form that emerged in Al Andalus and is influenced by the 800 years of Muslim rule in Iberia. It is an art form that retains its historical influences from Rajasthan and Sindh through the Balkans, Ottoman Turkey and North Africa. This year we focus on the Roma communities and families where flamenco began and is preserved.
