Anila Quayyum Agha (b. Lahore, Pakistan, 1965) is an internationally acclaimed Pakistani-American artist, recognized for her award-winning large-scale immersive installations. In 2019, her work was included in She Persists at the Venice Biennale. Her immersive installations use light and shadow inspired by Islamic architecture to convey socio-cultural and gender-related issues within contemporary societies. This marks the first showing of Quayyum Agha’s work in Canada.

Ghazaleh Avarzamani is a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist who studied painting at Azad Art University, Tehran, and holds a Master of Fine Arts from Central Saint Martins University of the Arts, London, UK. In 2021, she was the Museum’s Artist in Residence, which culminated in her ground-breaking exhibition titled: *Terms and Conditions Apply.

Ala Ebtekar (b. Berkley, California, United States, 1978) is an Iranian-American artist whose work explores light as a concept and a medium. His works often require slow photographic exposure times that draw attention back to the passing of time. He combines photography with other art techniques, including bookmaking and painting. His work has been exhibited throughout the United States as well as internationally.

Olafur Eliasson (b. Copenhagen, Denmark, 1967) is an internationally acclaimed Icelandic-Danish artist. He is known for sculptural, large-scale installations and interventions in public spaces. Eliasson challenges the way viewers see and experience the world around them by employing natural elements such as light, water, air, and the environment. Eliasson has been the recipient of numerous international awards and prizes.

Jamelie Hassan is a visual artist and activist based in London, Ontario. Since the 1970’s, she has exhibited widely in Canada and internationally. She is also active as a lecturer, writer and independent curator and has travelled and worked within Canada and internationally. In 2001 she was awarded the Governor General’s Award in Visual Arts. In 1993 she received the “Canada 125 ” Medal for outstanding community service.

Sir Anish Kapoor (b. Mumbai, India, 1954), CBE, is an internationally renowned British-Indian sculptor and conceptual artist. He was born in Mumbai, India, to a father of Indian Hindu descent and a mother of Iraqi Jewish heritage. Kapoor moved to London in the 1970s and represented Britain at the 44^th Venice Biennale and won the prestigious Turner Prize in 1991. Through his works, Kapoor regularly explores the material qualities of colour. He also investigates the physical properties of light and its interplay with surface.

Kimsooja (b. Taegu, Korea, 1957) is an international conceptual artist whose practice transcends distinctions of medium and form through works of painting, sewing, installation, performance, video, light, and architecture. Her principle of “non-doing” and “non-making” intends to make aware what already exists without the intent of making it. Thematically, Kimsooja’s work often focuses on migration, displacement, belonging, and home.

Sanaz Mazinani (b. Tehran, Iran, 1978) is an artist, academic, and educator based in Toronto. She works across the disciplines of photography, sculpture, and large-scale multimedia installations. Mazinani creates informational objects that invite us to rethink how we see. Her work has been shown internationally and is held in public collections including the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Aga Khan Museum.

Mallory Lowe Mpoka (b. Montreal, Canada, 1996) is a Cameroonian-Belgian multidisciplinary artist who was born and currently lives in Montreal. Mpoka explores issues of identity, kinship, and belonging through the lens of the post-colonial. She is influenced by stories and experiences that transcend cultural boundaries. Mpoka is the winner of the Malick Sidibé prize by the African Biennale of Photography (2022)

Tannis Nielsen (b. Red Deer, Alberta, 1970) is an Anishnaabe-Red River Métis multidisciplinary artist and academic. Her work explores Indigenous decolonization methodologies, oral histories, feminism, and the relative investigations between Indigenous science and quantum physics. Nielsen has been an advisory member to Native Women in the Arts and the past President of the Association for Native Development in the Performing and Visual Arts.

Phillip K. Smith III (b. Los Angeles, California, 1972) grew up in Southern California’s Coachella Valley and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design. Smith creates light-based work that draws on ideas of space, form, colour, light and shadow, environment, and change. His artwork is held in many museums and private collections.
