Stop #4 of Bellerive Room Highlights

Past excavations in Nishapur, Iran, and Samarqand, Uzbekistan, unearthed many examples of this type of ceramic, characterized by palmettes and calligraphic motifs in olive green, manganese brown, and tomato red, painted onto an off-white slip. The abstracted script on this bowl may evoke a repetition of the Arabic word for blessing, baraka.
