Mario Gonzalez
La Guarida del Angel, a 16th-century palace owned by cultural manager Mario Gonzalez, is a place of soul, identity, and passion, with 25 years of rich history. Located in the heart of Jerez’s flamenco-rich San Miguel neighbourhood, this historic venue has evolved from an ancient synagogue, convent, and orphanage into a vibrant concert hall. Mario Gonzalez also founded the “Jerez Off Festival,” programming hundreds of flamenco performances and recitals that showcase Jerez’s flamenco schools. The venue hosts conferences offering unique insights into flamenco art and culture. The house’s stunning courtyard features Mozarabic-style arches supported by columns, adding to its historic charm. A visit to La Guarida del Angel is incomplete without exploring the nearby Plaza de las Angustias, the Chapel of La Yedra, and monuments to flamenco legends like La Paquera and Lola Flores, all of which contribute to its rich cultural heritage.
