The land like gold and the sea like lapis,
like a fine blue and yellow brocaded silk
Explore the many shades of the colour blue in a tour of paintings, ceramics, jewellery, and textiles on display in our Museum Collection. Assistant Curator Bita Pourvash will delve into the sources of the beautiful hue, revealing how the colour made its way across the continents. You’ll also find out why the colour blue is such an important literary symbol for mystics and love-crazed personalities.
Bita Pourvash is Assistant Curator at the Aga Khan Museum. Most recently she co-curated the Museum’s exhibition Transforming Traditions: The Arts of 19th-century Iran. Prior to joining the Museum, she worked with the Royal Ontario Museum as a researcher, and at York University, Semnan University, and the Higher Education Center for Iranian Heritage as a lecturer. She oversees the Museum Collection rotations, which refresh the gallery twice a year with themed highlights, allowing light-sensitive materials to rest.
