Plans are underway for the Museum's 10th Anniversary Duende Flamenco Festival. Dates are set for November 14-17, 2024.  Check back reguarly for details on next year's festival and an update on all the exciting artists performing. 



Don't miss the Aga Khan Museum's annual Duende Flamenco Festival, running from November 16 to 19. Celebrate the fiery world of flamenco with film screenings, music, and live performances by prolific artists from all over the world, including acclaimed flamenco artists Eduardo Guerrero and El Yiyo.


This year's festival celebrates the cross-cultural practice of the art form, which spans from the Middle East to Japan to the Americas. Explore the multi-disciplinary nature of flamenco and its continually evolving modes of expression through an exciting celebration of dance, music, film, and family activities.


Spark your creativity on Saturday, November 18 and Sunday, November  19, from 12 to 4 pm with hands-on family activities and crafts inspired by the fiery world of flamenco and the Museum's upcoming exhibition, Night in the Garden of Love.


Throughout this year's Duende Flamenco Festival, enjoy a selection of films in the Bellerive Room for free.

PorQue: Flamencos Sin Fronteras

Thursday, November 16

Join award-winning flamenco artist Emilio Ochando, pianist Míriam Méndez, known as 'La Princesa Descalza,' and Carmen Romero in an international collaboration of lively dance and music that showcases the universality of Spanish dance, rhythm, and musicality.



Friday, November 17

Runtime: 90 minutes

Experience the unique and versatile techniques of Miguel Fernández Ribas, known as 'El Yiyo.' Get a front-row look at what makes Ribas stand out in the flamenco world.

Saturday, November 18

Runtime: 135 minutes (with 30-minute intermission)

Inspired by the poetry of the lighthouse, FARO explores different flamenco palos and versions of mythical songs inspired by its print. Enjoy musical numbers interspersed with Eduardo Guerrero's talent, culminating in an electrifying evening of fine technique and performance.


FARO will be preceded by an exhilarating journey through improvisational flamenco with Alfonso Mogaburo Cid, an electrifying performance by Carmen Romero and Emilio Ochando, and a special presentation featuring Eduardo Guerrero's prolific accompanists.


Fin de Fiesta

Sunday, November 19

Runtime: 90-minute show + 60-minute Fin De Fiesta in the Atrium

Watch as Andalusyria, Maria Serrano, Flamenco Borealis, and Notas de 4 light up the Nanji Family Foundation Auditorium stage in a final flamenco performance. Join the fin de fiesta celebration as it spills out into the Atrium, where you will be invited to dance, sing, and clap along.

The ninth annual Duende Flamenco Festival is guest curated by Carmen Romero, the artistic director and principal dancer of Toronto's Compañía Carmen Romero

Artistic Direction by Amirali Alibhai, Head of Performing Arts at the Aga Khan Museum. 


About Carmen Romero


Carmen Romero is an award-winning flamenco dance artist, performer, teacher, and producer. With a strong presence in the national and international dance scene, Romero has an unmatched talent for improvisation, choreography, and storytelling. Romero's mesmerizing ability to create transcendent experiences on stage has won her countless awards and nominations. Aside from coaching Latin pop star Shakira, she has received the Chalmers Award for the K.M. Hunter Emerging Artists Award, represented Canada at the 9th Annual Certamen de Coreografía de Danza Española y Flamenco in Madrid, and performed as a soloist in the International Castanet festival in Girona, Spain.
