SUMMER CAMPS 2016

Spend your summer in a world of discovery!

Packed with activities for kids between the ages of 6 and 12, our Summer Camps are offered in four exciting sessions this July and August. Camps run 9 am–4 pm. Extended care hours available 4–6 pm (additional $60). 10% discount for siblings.

Session 1 July 11–15 (1 week)

TALES OF WONDER


Ages 6–8

Let the treasures of the past inspire your artistic side. Using the stunning Museum Collection as your starting point, explore different artistic techniques from painting and calligraphy to clay. Learn what it means to slip and score, and how a little dragon’s blood can be turned into a masterpiece!

ART TREASURES


Ages 9–12

Get your game on and spend the week travelling the fabled Silk Routes, using the Museum’s Collection for inspiration. With teamwork and creativity, use what you learn about the spread of materials, people, and ideas to complete your mission in a weeklong trading campaign along the Silk Routes.

Session 2 July 18–22 (1 week)


PATTERN PARTY


Ages 6–8

Join the pattern party and have fun discovering the patterns all around us in art, nature and sound. Explore geometric shapes, arabesque designs, and music using printmaking, drawing, and more!

MUSIC OF THE MUSLIM WORLD


Ages 9–12

Explore the serene sound of Indian sitar. Discover fascinating rhythms of Arabic drums. Experience the mesmerizing sound of Persian santur. No experience necessary as you travel the world on this musical adventure.

Session 3 July 25–29 (1 week)

SILK ROUTES ADVENTURE


Ages 6–8

Spend your days on an art adventure as you travel the Silk Routes making art along the way. From east to west, see how ideas travelled and be inspired by treasures from across the world as you use pencils, paint, and imagination on your own artistic adventure.

DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS: SHAHNAMEH  EDITION


Ages 9–12

Let the Museum’s Collection inspire your role-playing adventures as you delve into a world of kings, heroes, and magical creatures. The ancient myths of Persia are brought to life in this campaign set in the classical world of the Shahnameh.

SESSION 4 August 8–19 (2 weeks)


STORYTIME THEATRE: 1001 NIGHTS,


Ages 6–8

Take a journey from storytime to the stage as you transform a classic tale from 1001 Nights. Dive into dramatic storytelling: make costumes and sets inspired by the Museum’s Collection as you prepare an epic story for the stage. This session is facilitated by Young People's Theatre!

MARVELLOUS MANUSCRIPTS


Ages 9–12

Master the art of the manuscript as you take a journey back in time, explore ancient tales, and write your own epic adventures. Then learn the techniques of paper, paint, and pen as you preserve your tale in a marvellous manuscript of your own, fit for a museum!
