  • After the death of his favourite commander and receiving constant threats of insurrection, King Hormuzd of Iran begins losing authority throughout Ctesiphon. Banduy and Gustaham, the king’s brothers-in-law, gather armed troops comprised of unhappy citizens and newly released prisoners to overthrow King Hormuzd. This painting shows the moments after these men and their troops have snatched the crown from Hormuzd’s head and are about to blind him.
