  • Once attentive to his beautiful wife Shirin, the Iranian king, Khusrau Parviz (r. 590–628), begins to neglect her, choosing instead to spend his time hunting, in battles, or travelling the world. One day, when the king is returning from a hunting excursion with his entourage, Shirin dons her crown and goes up to the palace roof. As Khusrau gazes upon Shirin in her imperial splendour, his love for her is rekindled.
